The meaning behind the ‘Tri Tide’ logo

When Tri was growing up in Hawaii, spending time in the ocean and at the beach was a part of his daily life. Because he spent so much time relying on the elements of Mother Nature to fulfill his days, whether it was relying on size of the waves, the speed of the wind, or the height of the tides, he instinctually found ways to make the most of what each day brought. This is the same mentality that has helped Tri find success and contentment, both on the court and even more importantly off the court in the challenges he has faced with his health.

When Tri got sick he vowed to learn and grow as much as he could so that when he finally got healthy he would feel grateful for what he’d been through and be able see life from a different perspective. Deep down he believed he could find a way to use this plight to his advantage. And that’s exactly what he did.

From meditation, to taking classes on public speaking, to sports and regular psychology, to diet and naturopathic medicine, to starting a player based media business; from all these things that he learned off the court, Tri is more confident than ever in his abilities on the court as he begins the battle for one of the two USA bids to the Tokyo 2020 Olympics.

This logo was created to represent this mentality, as a reminder to himself and others who choose to adopt it, to live that way going forward. It’s about making the decision to use our challenges to our advantage. Recognizing them first, and capitalizing on them as opportunities to grow as people, and taking the time to become aware of your most authentic self.

Think of it like surfing.  Find your wave (find your true self), paddle hard (put in the work), stand up (commit), enjoy the ride (be present, trust that that’s enough)!

“A bee has a sting, but honey too.”

“Obstacles don’t block the path, they are the path.”
